College Bowling Scholarships

Bowling is not only a favorite sport for lovers of the game, but for students displaying extraordinary bowling skills it’s a way to fund your college career.  Each year bowling associations and councils set aside a limited amount of resources to fund college tuition and other expenses for qualifying students.  Although the competition for scholarships is tough with over 50,000 high school bowlers in the United States, but only about 70 colleges offering scholarships , financial assistance is available for students demonstrating excellent skills at the sport of bowling and excelling in academics.

If you are a high school student with a passion for bowling there are several things to take into

consideration when considering applying for a bowling program scholarship from an accredit college or university.  Youth bowling coaches will want to take an inventory of personal attributes and accomplishments before offering a scholarship.  Factors such as academic grades, course load, average bowling score, attitude, and commitment.

In order for you to be considered a viable candidate for a bowling scholarship, the typical requirements are participating in a local bowling program or league and possessing an average bowling score of 170.  For students with an average score below 170 may still be considered for a scholarship, however, as a walk-on athlete.

High school students interested in college bowling scholarships are strongly encouraged to join a bowling league.  Being a part of a bowling league offers numerous benefits.  One such incentive is the fact it allows for more opportunities to gain experience in competitions, thus preparing you for college bowling.

Another advantage is it gives coaches the chance to see you play in a bowling alley setting.  It’s standard procedure that the majority of coaches will want to watch you play live before offering you a scholarship.  Ideally, students should begin planning to pursue a bowling scholarship as a sophomore or junior in high school.  Doing so allows you the ability to present your stats from the first bowling season.

As an authentic intercollegiate sport, bowling is an increasingly popular competitive sport.  There are numerous bowling associations and councils offering scholarships to high school students.   The following are the most reputable offering scholarships each year to high school seniors.
