Crazy Scholarships
Have you come across some crazy scholarships when you were exploring the different options of college financial
aid open to you? It is almost unthinkable for the average person to pursue higher education without taking recourse
to one of the many graduate school scholarships and
grants available today. Education is a very expensive proposition and most people have seen their nest eggs
disappear because of the current economic scenario.
The job market is also looking very depressed and it is not a good thing to have a huge amount of college debt to
deal with. There is a great deal of competitions for college scholarships which makes it quite difficult for you to
get a good one. You should not dismiss crazy college
scholarships as being useless because they do disburse quite a bit of money, albeit for unconventional
reasons.
One of the strangest financial aid programs is the Eileen J. Garrett Scholarship which is managed by the
Parapsychology Foundation. This foundation gives out a handsome sum of $3000 to any person who wishes to study
parapsychology. This is certainly a strange endowment but there are many other weird scholarships as well. The
interesting thing is that if you study these so called wacky scholarships you will see that there are plenty of
options for you to get a good amount of money to help you pursue a higher education.
There are certain so called crazy scholarships that are very helpful if you
are looking for education that is not conventional or if you would be rejected by conventional scholarship board
that makes the selection based upon educational criteria. If you plan to be a chef then the Culinary Institute of
America offers a wonderful amount of $25,000 in scholarship money to a person who can bake a spectacular apple pie
and win the All-American Apple Pie Recipe Contest. Another interesting one of these crazy scholarships is the David
Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship.
If you are enrolled at Ball State University which is where Letterman had a very undistinguished academic career,
then you could apply for one of the three $10,000 scholarships given to students who are not outstanding at their
work.
One of the strangest of the crazy scholarships available is the Starfleet Academy Scholarship. This is an endowment
that is available to students pursuing a variety of courses including medicine. The money available is $500 per
student. Ironically, this particular scholarship is available to a person who is an active Starfleet member. This
is an organization meant for diehard fans of Star Trek. However, as crazy as the reason seems, the money will be
extremely useful for you if you are pursuing any one of the courses as a graduate student that the Starfleet
Academy Scholarships offers.
Another weird scholarship is the Elizabeth Garde Nursing Scholarship. This is ostensibly a nursing endowment but it
is awarded by The Danish Sisterhood to a member or a child of a member. The purpose of it is to preserve the
traditions of this European country.
Do not let the strangeness of any of these crazy scholarships prevent you from applying to the organizations that
offer them. They are as good a source of financial aid as any program that sounds very formal and conventional. In
fact, these programs are very useful since they come to the help of people who might not get financial aid because
they do not have the required educational achievements. It is a fact that most scholarships are given to students
who do well academically or who are involved in a range of extracurricular activities or community service. If you
cannot count on any of these reasons for getting financial aid then you should certainly start looking for
unconventional sources such as these. In fact, you could also look for other sources of non-academic
scholarships.
Most people do not think of non-academic sources of financial aid and there is relatively little competition for
them as a result. Sources for them include employers, churches or other religious organizations as well as
organizations for minority or ethnic groups. Many unions and local businesses also give financial aid for education
to members and their children.
Looking for crazy scholarships is a great way to ensure that you get adequate funding for your education. Apply for
regular educational funding like other people by all means but you should also not ignore these unconventional
sources. Add them to your scholarship calendar and you might be pleasantly surprised with the money you are
awarded. You will be able to enter the workforce after a while without having to worry about dealing with student
debt. Even if you only get a small amount of around $500 it is certainly better than getting nothing at all.
Therefore, you should go online and look for as many of these scholarships as you can.

else.
