FAFSA Scholarships
The federal government provides scholarship opportunities to all interested college and high school students
through FASFA Scholarships. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) is the basic financial aid
application form that students need to complete so that they can qualify for state or federally-funded study loans,
grants and work-study. The application process may seem overwhelming, but there are lots of reference materials
that can help you navigate through this financial aid application.
Interested applicants need to be a registered federal student enrolled in a federal school. There are two ways
of applying for this federal student aid; paper and electronic. The federal aid application is available online at
FAFSA’s official website. To get a paper copy of this application,
applicants can call this number: 800-4-FED-AID (433-3243).
The easiest financial aid application process is the online route. Applicants can fill out, submit and track
updates online. Once you have completed the application you are eligible for FAFSA scholarships. The online program ensures that you have completed the forms
properly before finally submitting it to the processing center. There is less chance of making an error and
possibly losing the scholarship. An online application is not only an easy process; it also reduces the total
processing time by almost two weeks.
But before you lodge your application for the FASFA scholarships, you need to do the following:
1. Complete Your Tax Information
Federal student aid programs require applicants to complete their income tax returns. The applicant’s family will
also need to update their income tax returns before the application is considered. Applicants can complete the
FAFSA application form even without filing their income tax returns with the IRS. You may need to have the
following documents when completing your income tax returns:
• Social Security Card
• Driver’s License
• W-2 forms and money earned for the fiscal year
• Previous Federal Income Tax Return, if applicable
Additional documents needed by dependents:
• Parent’s Federal Income Tax Return for the previous year
• Untaxed income records for the previous year
• Summary of Assets and Liabilities
Additional documents needed by non-US citizens:
• Permanent resident card or alien registration
2. Obtain a PIN
The US Department of Education issues a personal identification number (PIN) for all applicants of the FASFA
Scholarships. To get one, you simply have to complete a short application form at their website. Your PIN will be
sent to you by mail or email. Student aid applicants who do not have a PIN can still use the FASFA online
application; however, they are required to send in the signature page.
3. Check Your Scholarship Application Details
To increase your chances of getting a scholarship, you need to be mindful of these points:
• The first day of the year is also the first day of filing your FASFA Scholarships application. For your aid
application to be approved, you need to file as closely as possible to this date. Take note of the college’s
student loans deadlines.
• If you encounter any problem with regard to the application, check with the FASFA official website which
contains a detailed application procedure. You can also contact them through their phone number to ask any
questions. It is important that everything you fill out in the application form is correct.
• Some colleges and universities may have additional requirements, such as financial aid forms or their own
documents completed.
There is a student loan network that offers a wide range of useful, free resources for students looking for
financial aid. These networks are run by financial aid professionals who are willing to share their expertise in
this field. If you have difficulty with FASFA Scholarships, you can consult them. This ensures that you have a good
chance of getting the amount you really need.
After completing your application, you will be evaluated depending on the federal need formula. FASFA Scholarships
gives preference to families who really need financial aid. This is why it is important for you to send an accurate
report of your family’s financial situation.
Applicants will receive a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR), either through mail or email, from the US
Department of Education. Depending on the type of application, expect to receive the SAR in a week, but no later
than three weeks hence. This document contains the data you entered in the FASFA. Check the document for any errors
and follow the directions listed for making necessary corrections. Submit corrections immediately to avoid
unnecessary delays in the processing of your application. Make sure that you have your copy of the SAR for your
future use.
Applicants will then be notified of the amount of FASFA Scholarships awarded to them. Students with special
learning disabilities can file a separate application such as for the ADHD
Scholarships which are either private or federally funded. There are lots of scholarship options open for
students. You simply have to widen your search.
