Florida College Scholarships

If you study in Florida, you may need to look around for procuring grants as there are several Florida College Scholarships that will help you survive through college. With the high cost of living, affording college education can be a very taxing venture to just about anyone. This is where grants and scholarships come into play; they serve to lighten the burden. If you live in Florida, there are many scholarship and grant opportunities available. Good news is that most of these college scholarships have few and very simple eligibility requirements. This article discusses scholarships and grant opportunities offered in the state of Florida, the eligibility requirements and how to apply.

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OFSA) at Florida Department of Education is the body charged with the responsibility of administering grants and scholarships to students. They also disseminate and distribute information about Florida College Scholarships to students, parents and concerned professionals. If need be, more information about any scholarship and grant can be obtained from OSFA. Below are some of the scholarships awarded to the undergraduate student as well as the graduate students. Most of these are merit based college scholarships meaning that you have to put in some effort right from high school.

Topping the list of Florida College Scholarships is the Florida Public Student Assistance Grant (FSAG). This college scholarship is targeted to students attending public schools. Just like any other state administered, you must at least reside and attend a public university within the state boundaries. The university can be a public community college or a state university. There is one more requirement though. The college must be Title IV eligible and accredited by US Department of Education. The FSAG scholarship program is especially of benefit to freshmen who are starting out in college.

Then there is the Florida Public Post Secondary Career Education Student Assistance Grant also known as FSAG Career Education. To qualify for this grant, you must be attending a career center or community college that offers career certification for units of more than 450 hours which is equivalent to 15 semester-credit hours. This is a favourite one among Florida College Scholarships as it gives many a chance to pursue their dreams.

From the Florida College Scholarships package, you will also get the Florida Private student Assistance Grant (FSAG Private). Things are a bit different with this one. To be eligible, you must be a student at an independent university or college. The college you prefer to choose must also operate as a non-profit organization if considerations are to be made. The college must also have accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools abbreviated SACS. This is together with the usual Title IV eligibility and accreditation from the Department of Education. You must also be located within the states boundaries.

There is also the post secondary FSAG sponsored by the Department of Education’s OSFA. This is a popular program among Florida College Scholarships. It is open to all students who school in an independent post secondary institution. The institution must have private nursing diplomas as part of their program. It also must have accreditation from Florida Board of Nursing and US Department of Education. The institution must also be Title IV eligible. To qualify, you must also be a resident of Florida.

To this grant, there is also another set of eligibility requirements in case you don’t fully meet the aforementioned. The institution can be a sole-standing Florida university or college fully licensed by CIE – Commission for Independent Education. It shouldn’t be among institutions or centers eligible for FSAG Private Scholarships. The institution should be in a position to provide state accredited and nationally accepted degrees. Since this is a Florida grant, you must be located within the state’s permits.

Among Florida College Scholarships, there are two special scholarship programs; the FBFSP and the CSDDV. FBFSP stands for Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program and CSDDV for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans. To qualify, you must be a student in a Florida public community college or public state university. You can also apply for this grant if you attend a career center. You also must have lived in Florida for a period of more than three years.

There are many Florida College Scholarships and monetary grants that will see you successfully through college. You however need to apply early on. Prepare well in advance and take your SAT and ACT tests. The scholarship awarding committee is pleased by high scores so make effort and pass with flying colours. Shun procrastination when it comes to applying for your scholarships.

Many scholarships, some of which are mentioned here, come with strict deadlines which if missed means only one thing; one missed opportunity. You will need the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to apply for these grants and scholarships. Most deadline dates fall between February 15th and March 15th. Check with OSFA to confirm your deadline dates.
